Rooms

Celebrating the building's history, the Recess Inn currently offers four unique guest rooms with en suites: The History, Music, Primary, and Geography Rooms. We are in the process of refreshing each room, in harmony with the character beloved by so many guests. During this process, the decor may look slightly different than the currently available photos.

Rooms are refreshed every three days (sheets and towels changed, space tidied). If this service is not necessary or if you would like to make alternate arrangements, please let us know.

Discounted rates are available for booking all four rooms at one time. Discounts are also available for current and retired teachers, current and retired healthcare professionals, active military and veterans, and current Macon and Linn County residents. Inquire today!

Community Space

The opportunity to bring people together is a hallmark of the Inn. On the main floor, you'll discover the Oral Hawkins Library, a tribute to a cherished educator, complete with original chalkboards and piano, books, games, and a cozy seating area by the wood stove. It's the perfect spot for families and friends to unwind and relish the simple joys of life.

Our charming eat-in kitchen, adorned with a red and white tiled floor, is fully equipped to cater to our guests, while the adjacent dining room comfortably seats around 20, making it ideal for gatherings and shared meals.

The third floor of the Inn features a living room with a TV and DVD/VHS player. Pick your favorite and snuggle up!

Food & Beverage

We are here to cater to your needs. Please select your breakfast and/or supplemental offerings while booking or contact the Guest Services Manager to discuss your food & beverage requests. We are also happy to make recommendations for area restaurants.

Delicious Country Breakfasts

Indulge in our famous Big Country Breakfast ($15), served at 8am. For guests with a lighter appetite or preferring an earlier or later breakfast, a generous Continental Breakfast ($8) is available.

Snack Shop

Grocery Delivery + Kitchen Use

While there are no restaurants in Ethel, we offer pre-arranged grocery delivery service ($) and use of the well-stocked kitchen ($) outside of breakfast hours. Please arrange your anticipated kitchen use with our team.

Coming Soon: Artisan Cheese + Local Wine

Our snack shop operates on the honesty system. Select your purchases from our shop or grab a cold soda or water from the fridge. Jot them down on your tab, and arrange to add them to your room, or pay by Venmo, PayPal, cash, or check.
