Ethel, Missouri, is a tranquil village of fewer than 100 residents nestled off Highway 149, just 9 miles north of New Cambria and US Highway 36. The scenic, two-lane road from New Cambria to Ethel takes you through peaceful farmland, rolling hills, and stunning foliage—transporting you to a simpler, quieter time. Life here moves at a relaxed pace, and the locals are as friendly as they come. Train lovers will enjoy the frequent sight of the Santa Fe Railroad passing through town, a delightful feature of Ethel's character.


Staying at The Recess Inn, right in the heart of Macon and Linn Counties, you'll be perfectly positioned to explore the rich history, culture, and natural beauty that our area has to offer. The communities that define the Heartland are waiting to welcome you. Please note - activities and attractions, for the most part, are located throughout wider Macon, Linn, Adair, and Chariton Counties. The quiet village of Ethel has no stores or restaurants at this time. It is a true getaway! Driving times to area towns from the Inn can be expected as follows:
 

  • New Cambria: 10 minutes

  • Callao: 20 minutes

  • Bevier: 25 minutes

  • Kirksville: 45 minutes

  • Macon: 30 minutes

  • Marceline: 25 minutes

  • Brookfield: 30 minutes
