Join us for the dedication of the Recess Inn's History Room to beloved teacher Jim Hill. Mr. Hill was a meticulous record-keeper, and we are fortunate to have considerable memorabilia of the Ethel School and our area due to his efforts. We will also be dedicating a special book case, the Community Histories Library, to Warren “Jack” Lee. Much of the history of Ethel is known due to Jack’s decades-long efforts that culminated in the book A History of Ethel: 1888 – 1988. His passion for Ethel and belief in our future was contagious. Samantha Bray will kick off the event in the Ethel Community Church sanctuary with an overview of Ethel’s community history. Jerry Hill will speak about the Hill and Haggy family’s contributions to the Ethel School and discuss Jim’s role. Deanna Lee O’Brian will then speak about the Lee family’s long association with Ethel and Jack’s process of creating the Ethel history book. Any attendees with memories of Jim and/or Jack are welcome and encouraged to share. We’ll then head over to the Recess Inn for a reception. Guests will be able to chat in the History Room dedicated to Jim and view the contents of the Warren “Jack” Lee Community Histories Library book case. Refreshments will be available in the Oral Hawkins Library. *Community Luncheon from 11am - 2pm*: The Ethel Community Church will also be holding a made-from-scratch soup and sandwich luncheon to benefit the Ethel Community Food Pantry. Soups will include chicken noodle, baked potato, chili, and a surprise soup selection, with all the add-ins (cheese, sour cream, chips, crackers, etc.). Ham salad and pimento cheese sandwiches will be served on fresh baked rolls. Desserts and beverages will be included. Free will donations accepted and to-go boxes available. You can then head right upstairs for the program.
